A Day in the Life of Lucy Eglinton - HR Coordinator

In this month's day in the life post, we take a visit to Lucy Eglinton, HR Coordinator for On Device Research to catch up on her average day from morning coffee to lights out.

7am If I'm working from home, I get up with my 2 children (7 and 4), and we head downstairs for breakfast. They usually have something like croissants, fruit and yoghurt and I will have fruit and yoghurt with a cup of tea.

8.20am Time to walk to school. We are lucky enough to live in a lovely village and we walk along a scenic river path. The children usually ride along on their scooters with their school friends and I chat with the other mums. After drop off, I grab a coffee at the village coffee shop and then head home.

9am Am back home and ready to get started. I'll begin by checking my emails and any Slack messages. I then go through my HR activities sheet that I share with my wider team and prepare my to do list for the day.

10am I have a catch up with Michelle (our HR Consultant), and we will go through the HR activities sheet and discuss new tasks/projects to start working on. This can include a vast range of jobs including reviewing benefits, arranging training, following up employee queries, updating HR documents or handbooks, policies or discussing new ideas such as the On Device Research mentoring programme.

11am I will begin working on HR projects and activities.

12.30pm I take a break around this time and usually go for a jog along the river or if the weather is rainy, I will do a home workout. I will then make myself a salad or wrap usually accompanied with an ice cold diet coke!

1.30pm Cup of tea at the ready and I will start to catch up on recruitment. This will usually involve meeting with our Hiring Manager and going through CVs and interview feedback. I will then pass feedback on to the recruitment agents and record notes on our HR recruitment file. I will arrange interviews with candidates or put together job offers if necessary.

2pm If we have any new starters joining, I will go through my new starter checklist, which will include things like collecting employment references, ordering their laptop and equipment, planning first week inductions and chatting with the new joiner about their first week to ensure they feel a warm welcome into On Device Research.

3pm General admin time where I finish off any interview arranging, write HR letters, employment documents, HR projects or arrange company socials.

5pm I check any further emails and finish off any final bits for the day. I then update my HR activities to do list as well as my own notepad so I'm ready to get going again the next day!

6pm Time to relax! After collecting the kids from after school club, I give them a snack such as a yoghurt, fruit or a biscuit and we chat about our day. I'm a lazy cook, so I love my air fryer. I usually make some sort of rice dish with veggies and chicken and hot sauce and it's really quick and easy to do! Once the kids are in bed, I will usually relax with a boxset or catch up with my neighbours or friends on my phone.
