The new predictions from the United Nations Population Division estimate that over the next 90 years Africa will see population explosion nearly unprecedented in human history.
The Washington Post has a really good story on this but I've pulled out a few highlights:
- Population of Africa expected to quadruple over the next 90 years
- Asia's population will peak in 50 years, then start to decline
- Aging population in Asia will put a tremendous burden on economy
- Europe will continue to shrink with the exception of the UK and France thanks to immigration
- North America will continue to grow at a slow, sustainable pace, surpassing South America around 2070
- Nigeria will be the growth superstar in Africa, expected to grow population by factor of eight
In 1980, China's median age was 22 In 2020, it will be 38--older than US In 2040, it will be 47--older than Europe

All this is rather long term but fascinating stuff for us as a company since big part of our work happens outside of the US and Europe in Asian and African markets.
